One-to-one tuition: From £72 per hour

Applying to university is one of the most important milestones in a young person’s educational journey. Beyond achieving strong grades, successful applications often require careful planning, thoughtful reflection and the ability to communicate academic interests, achievements and ambitions effectively.

For pupils applying to highly competitive universities and courses, the process can feel particularly daunting. Personal statements, admissions tests, interviews and course selection decisions often require significant preparation alongside the demands of school or college study.

At Aquinas Tuition, we provide personalised university application support designed to help pupils navigate the process with confidence. Our experienced tutors and advisors help pupils make informed decisions, present themselves effectively and prepare thoroughly for the various stages of the admissions journey.

While all application materials must remain entirely the pupil’s own work, we provide guidance, feedback and structured support that helps applicants showcase their strengths and potential in the strongest possible way.

Most support is delivered online, allowing pupils across the UK and internationally to access specialist guidance regardless of location.

Supporting Pupils Through the University Application Process

Every application journey is different.

Some pupils have a clear vision of their intended course and university destination from an early stage. Others are still exploring potential options and may benefit from guidance when considering future pathways.

Our support can help pupils with:

  • University and course selection
  • Understanding admissions requirements
  • Academic profile development
  • Supercurricular planning
  • Personal statement development
  • Interview preparation
  • Admissions test preparation
  • Application strategy

The aim is not simply to maximise the chances of receiving offers, but to help pupils make informed choices about their future education.

Applying to Competitive Universities

Applications to highly selective universities often require more than strong predicted grades alone.

Admissions tutors frequently look for evidence of:

  • Academic curiosity
  • Independent learning
  • Subject engagement beyond the classroom
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Intellectual maturity
  • Genuine enthusiasm for the chosen discipline

Developing these qualities takes time.

Our tutors can help pupils identify meaningful ways to deepen their engagement with their chosen subject through wider reading, research, enrichment activities and thoughtful academic exploration.

Building a Strong Academic Profile

Many competitive courses receive applications from pupils with similar academic credentials.

As a result, universities often look beyond examination results when assessing applicants.

Depending on the subject and institution, applicants may benefit from developing:

  • Wider subject knowledge
  • Independent research skills
  • Relevant work experience
  • Reading and reflection habits
  • Academic discussion skills
  • Evidence of sustained interest in the subject

We help pupils identify opportunities that align with their interests and long-term goals while ensuring preparation remains realistic and manageable alongside existing studies.

Personalised Application Support

No two applicants have identical ambitions, strengths or circumstances.

Our support is tailored carefully to each pupil’s goals and may involve:

  • Long-term application planning
  • University research
  • Course comparison
  • Admissions guidance
  • Application timeline management
  • Interview preparation

Where appropriate, we can also help pupils understand the different requirements associated with particular universities, courses and admissions pathways.

She helped me win my place at Oxford

Nateer – Pupil

Ms Mouskis taught me English Literature for three years at GCSE level. Her teaching style allowed me to improve and progress from a grade 5 to a grade 8 in my formal GCSE exam. It is particularly due to her very detailed and constructive feedback that guided me to adapt a more sophisticated style of writing. Ms Mouskis tends to focus on writer’s intent and how every piece of literature we study is significant, allowing me to connect with novels on a more personal level. Due to her passionate and attentive teaching method, I was encouraged by her to pursue English Literature further into A level, where I achieved an A. Beyond her capabilities as an English teacher, she worked closely with me to perfect my university application that granted me a place at Oxford university. I’m incredibly thankful for her for being such a caring teacher and going beyond pure academia but also showing a genuine interest in my well being as a person.

What Makes Aquinas Different?

There are many tutoring companies offering UCAS and Personal Statement support, so choosing the right one can feel overwhelming.

At Aquinas Tuition, we believe the difference isn't simply in what we teach—it's in how we teach.

Every decision we make is guided by one simple belief:

Children learn best when they feel understood, supported and confident in their own abilities.

That's why we take the time to get to know every child as an individual. We don't believe in standard lesson plans or one-size-fits-all programmes. Instead, we build personalised learning experiences that reflect each child's strengths, challenges and aspirations.

Of course, academic progress matters. But we also know that lasting success comes from helping children enjoy learning, ask questions confidently and develop the resilience to tackle new challenges.

For many families, that's where the biggest transformation happens.

It's not unusual for parents to tell us that their child now looks forward to lessons, feels more confident at school or is willing to attempt tasks they would previously have avoided.

Those changes often become the foundation upon which academic success is built.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We believe the best outcomes are achieved when tutors and parents work together.

That's why we keep families informed throughout the tuition journey, providing regular progress updates, celebrating achievements and discussing the next steps in your child's learning.

Rather than wondering how lessons are going, you'll have a clear understanding of the progress your child is making and the areas we're continuing to develop.

Frequently asked questions

Do you support pupils applying to UK universities across a range of subjects?

Yes, regardless of subject, we can assist in your child’s university application. We will try our best to ensure your child is matched with a tutor who has a relevant subject specialism or is highly experienced in UCAS applications across multiple subjects.

Do you support pupils applying to universities abroad?

This is not something we specialise in; however, we can assist with interview preparation or application completion. It is important for us to make clear that our tutors are UK based and their experience is founded upon a deep knowledge of the UK university system.

My child has entrance exams as part of their application to university; can you help with this?

This is something we can discuss during your free consultation. Most of our tutors have experience supporting pupils in university admissions exams and we will try to match your child with a subject specialist.

There is an interview component to my child’s university application. Does Aquinas support with this?

Yes – our tutors are highly experienced in preparing pupils for interviews and can work on these skills specifically if requested.

Can you help my child with their Personal Statement?

Our tutors have plenty of experience mentoring pupils through the Personal Statement process and can absolutely support your child through the writing process, whilst ensuring that the work remains their own.

How often should my child have tuition?

For many pupils, one lesson per week provides a consistent and manageable pace of progress for university admission preparation.

As UCAS, Personal Statements, admissions exams and interviews are generally front-loaded in the Autumn/Winter term of Year 13/S6 some parents request multiple tuition sessions a week, so their child feels fully prepared and supported.

During your consultation, we’ll recommend a schedule that reflects your child’s needs, targets and timeline.

Does online tuition really work?

Yes—provided it’s delivered well and your child is matched with the right tutor.

Our lessons are fully interactive and carefully planned to keep pupils engaged. Many parents are surprised by how naturally children adapt to learning online, and one-to-one tuition allows every lesson to be tailored to your child’s individual needs.

How do you choose the right tutor for my child?

We don’t simply assign the next available tutor.

We begin with a free consultation to understand your child’s strengths, personality, learning style and goals, target universities and courses. This allows us to carefully match them with a tutor who is best suited to support their application and help them grow in confidence. For further information about our tuition process you can read more here.

What if my child doesn't get on with their tutor?

Building a positive relationship between tutor and pupil is incredibly important.

We take great care when matching children with tutors, but if we ever feel a different tutor would better meet your child’s needs, we’ll work with you to find the right solution.

Our priority is always ensuring your child feels comfortable, supported and confident in their learning.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

You’ll receive regular monthly progress reports outlining what your child has been working on, the progress they’ve made and next steps.

We also encourage open communication, so you’ll always have the opportunity to discuss your child’s development with us.

Can you help if my child lacks confidence?

Absolutely.

In fact, many families contact us because their child has the ability to succeed but lacks confidence in their own skills.

Building confidence is central to our approach. As children begin to understand concepts and content more deeply and experience regular success, their confidence naturally grows alongside their academic ability.

Will tutoring guarantee my child achieves their goals?

No tutor can honestly guarantee absolute success, and we believe it’s important to be transparent about that.

Many factors influence outcomes, including the child’s starting point, the teaching they receive within school and their commitment to working out of school.

What we can promise is personalised teaching, expert guidance and a structured programme designed to help your child reach their full potential.

What happens during the free consultation?

The consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know your child and understand what you’re hoping to achieve.

We’ll discuss your child’s strengths, areas where they may need support, their targets and answer any questions you have about our tuition process.

Following the consultation, we’ll recommend the most appropriate next steps, with no obligation to book tuition.
