One-to-one tuition: From £72 per hour

The university application process involves far more than completing an online form.

Applicants are often required to make important decisions about courses, institutions and future career pathways while balancing school, college and examination commitments. For many pupils, navigating the UCAS process for the first time can feel overwhelming.

At Aquinas Tuition, we provide structured guidance that helps applicants approach university admissions with confidence and clarity.

Our support covers all stages of the application journey, from course selection and university research to personal statement development and application strategy.

Importantly, all submitted application materials remain entirely the applicant’s own work. Our role is to provide guidance, feedback and support that helps pupils present themselves effectively while maintaining the integrity of the admissions process.

Understanding the UCAS Process

The UCAS application system is designed to help pupils apply to universities across the United Kingdom.

However, selecting appropriate courses and institutions often requires careful thought and research.

Our advisors can help applicants consider:

  • Course options
  • Entry requirements
  • University choices
  • Career aspirations
  • Alternative pathways
  • Application timelines

The aim is to ensure pupils make informed decisions based on their interests, strengths and long-term ambitions.

Our Process

Support begins with an initial consultation during which we discuss academic interests, university aspirations and the applicant’s current stage within the admissions process.

Following this, we develop a personalised plan designed to support the applicant’s goals and timeline.

Guidance is tailored carefully to individual circumstances and may involve one-off consultations or ongoing support throughout the admissions cycle.

She helped me win my place at Oxford

Nateer – Pupil

Ms Mouskis taught me English Literature for three years at GCSE level. Her teaching style allowed me to improve and progress from a grade 5 to a grade 8 in my formal GCSE exam. It is particularly due to her very detailed and constructive feedback that guided me to adapt a more sophisticated style of writing. Ms Mouskis tends to focus on writer’s intent and how every piece of literature we study is significant, allowing me to connect with novels on a more personal level. Due to her passionate and attentive teaching method, I was encouraged by her to pursue English Literature further into A level, where I achieved an A. Beyond her capabilities as an English teacher, she worked closely with me to perfect my university application that granted me a place at Oxford university. I’m incredibly thankful for her for being such a caring teacher and going beyond pure academia but also showing a genuine interest in my well being as a person.

Choosing the Right Course

Many pupils begin the application process knowing they wish to attend university but remain uncertain about which course would suit them best.

This is entirely normal.

Our advisors help pupils explore:

  • Academic interests
  • Degree content
  • Future career pathways
  • Alternative course options
  • Joint honours programmes
  • University differences

By developing a clearer understanding of available options, applicants are often able to make more confident and informed decisions.

Personal Statement Support

The personal statement provides applicants with an opportunity to explain their interest in a chosen subject and demonstrate their suitability for university study.

Many pupils find this one of the most challenging aspects of the application process.

Common difficulties include:

  • Knowing where to begin
  • Structuring ideas effectively
  • Demonstrating subject interest
  • Reflecting on experiences
  • Avoiding generic statements
  • Writing confidently about achievements

Our support focuses on helping pupils communicate their experiences and interests clearly and authentically.

We can assist with:

  • Planning and structure
  • Identifying relevant experiences
  • Reflecting on academic interests
  • Developing stronger written expression
  • Reviewing draft content
  • Providing constructive feedback

However, all content must remain the applicant’s own work.

We do not write personal statements on behalf of pupils, nor do we provide text that can simply be copied into an application.

Instead, we help applicants articulate their own experiences and aspirations more effectively.

Demonstrating Academic Interest

Competitive university applications often benefit from evidence of engagement beyond the classroom.

Depending on the chosen subject, applicants may wish to discuss:

  • Wider reading
  • Academic lectures
  • Research projects
  • Work experience
  • Subject competitions
  • Relevant volunteering
  • Independent learning

Our advisors help pupils identify meaningful experiences and reflect on them thoughtfully within their applications.

Universities are often more interested in what a pupil learned from an experience than the experience itself.

Application Strategy

A strong university application is not simply about applying to the most prestigious institutions.

Successful applicants typically make thoughtful choices that balance ambition with realism.

Support may include:

  • Reviewing entry requirements
  • Comparing universities
  • Understanding admissions expectations
  • Considering alternative options
  • Developing application timelines
  • Preparing for next stages of admissions

This helps pupils approach the process with greater confidence and clarity.

Preparing for Interviews and Further Assessment

Some universities and courses require additional stages beyond the UCAS application.

These may include:

  • Interviews
  • Admissions tests
  • Written work submissions
  • Portfolios
  • Assessment centres

Where appropriate, we can provide guidance and preparation to help applicants approach these stages confidently.

Frequently asked questions

Can you help my child with their Personal Statement?

Our tutors have plenty of experience mentoring pupils through the Personal Statement process and can absolutely support your child through the writing process, whilst ensuring that the work remains their own.

How often should my child have tuition?

For many pupils, one lesson per week provides a consistent and manageable pace of progress for university admission preparation.

As UCAS, Personal Statements, admissions exams and interviews are generally front-loaded in the Autumn/Winter term of Year 13/S6 some parents request multiple tuition sessions a week, so their child feels fully prepared and supported.

During your consultation, we’ll recommend a schedule that reflects your child’s needs, targets and timeline.

Does online tuition really work?

Yes—provided it’s delivered well and your child is matched with the right tutor.

Our lessons are fully interactive and carefully planned to keep pupils engaged. Many parents are surprised by how naturally children adapt to learning online, and one-to-one tuition allows every lesson to be tailored to your child’s individual needs.

How do you choose the right tutor for my child?

We don’t simply assign the next available tutor.

We begin with a free consultation to understand your child’s strengths, personality, learning style and goals, target universities and courses. This allows us to carefully match them with a tutor who is best suited to support their application and help them grow in confidence. For further information about our tuition process you can read more here.

What if my child doesn't get on with their tutor?

Building a positive relationship between tutor and pupil is incredibly important.

We take great care when matching children with tutors, but if we ever feel a different tutor would better meet your child’s needs, we’ll work with you to find the right solution.

Our priority is always ensuring your child feels comfortable, supported and confident in their learning.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

You’ll receive regular monthly progress reports outlining what your child has been working on, the progress they’ve made and next steps.

We also encourage open communication, so you’ll always have the opportunity to discuss your child’s development with us.

Can you help if my child lacks confidence?

Absolutely.

In fact, many families contact us because their child has the ability to succeed but lacks confidence in their own skills.

Building confidence is central to our approach. As children begin to understand concepts and content more deeply and experience regular success, their confidence naturally grows alongside their academic ability.

Will tutoring guarantee my child achieves their goals?

No tutor can honestly guarantee absolute success, and we believe it’s important to be transparent about that.

Many factors influence outcomes, including the child’s starting point, the teaching they receive within school and their commitment to working out of school.

What we can promise is personalised teaching, expert guidance and a structured programme designed to help your child reach their full potential.

What happens during the free consultation?

The consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know your child and understand what you’re hoping to achieve.

We’ll discuss your child’s strengths, areas where they may need support, their targets and answer any questions you have about our tuition process.

Following the consultation, we’ll recommend the most appropriate next steps, with no obligation to book tuition.
